Hall of Fame Inductees

Washington County, Alabama

In April 2001, the Board of Directors began discussions on another way to preserve and celebrate heritage, and the Washington County Hall of Fame was born. Four members met as a committee and prepared an application outlining the qualifications they were looking for in a person or persons to honor in the Washington County Hall of Fame. The spirit of those qualifications is to identify those who have contributed significantly to life in Washington County

The first inductions into the Washington County Hall of Fame were on April 19, 2002, almost exactly a year later. By the 2024 inductions, we will have inducted 150 individuals, which includes 17 husband and wife couples inducted together.

These 150 individuals come from all walks of life. They are teachers and farmers, housewives and governors. They are lawyers, judges, preachers, doctors, and nurses. They are white, black, and Indian. But no matter their differences, they have one thing in common- a love for their community and their county and a willingness to work hard to keep Washington County progressing.

If you know someone who has been or is an outstanding citizen of our county and has accomplished great things for our county, please get an application, fill it out, and take it by the Washington County Museum. They are reviewed early each year for an Induction Ceremony in May. But, you can turn it in anytime to be ready for the next cycle of inductions. By doing so, you not only give honor where honor is due, but also help us preserve the history and heritage of our county by sharing their stories.
